How to study mathematics at home?

  1. Study the title. What do you already know about the topic?
  2. Read the text in your book. Find the concepts or rules that you need to learn. How are the concepts and rules related to each other and to the things you have learned previously?
  3. Explain in your own words what the concepts mean: define them.
  4. Provide an example for each new concept.
  5. How can the concepts be grouped? Create groups, identify the main category and subcategories. Draw mind maps, tables, and diagrams.
  6. Read the example exercise and solution. Explain to yourself how the solution works.
  7. Mark any words or topics that you don’t understand. Ask your teacher about them in the next lesson.
  8. Do your homework. Use example exercises as models. Make sketches to help understanding.
  9. Keep your work neat so you can understand it later. Number tasks and draw lines between them. Show the calculation and its steps clearly.
  10. When homework is checked, listen carefully to understand how the solution is found.
