Instructions are given as commands or prompts (in imperative form): peel, chop, measure. The instruction is read first in its entirety and then step by step as the cooking proceeds. It is important to follow the correct order to make sure that the dish turns out well and the instruction is understood. If you haven’t read the instruction from the beginning, it may be unclear what a term like pieces refers to. Numbering helps in following the instructions in the right order.
