- Read the chapters from the book and review your notebook notes.
- Do your homework.
- Practice reading all the time. In your free time, read small Finnish texts, such as the sides of milk cartons, cereal boxes, street names, advertisements, bulletin board notices and articles in free newspapers. Libraries are treasure troves!
- Watch Finnish TV shows or listen to Finnish speech on the radio or online.
- Try to use Finnish whenever you can. Do not switch to English, even if you think you know it better.
- Learn your own language fluently; learning a new language will be easier. Libraries have multilingual materials, and Finland has a multilingual library that lends material throughout the country.
- Talk with adults in your own language about global phenomena and events, homework, Finland, school, and hobbies. This will give you general knowledge that is needed to understand new things. If you are familiar with the phenomenon, the Finnish word representing it will be easier to remember.
- Learn to correct language errors one at a time based on your teacher’s feedback.
